HI, yeah it can be, they screen slides and so do we. BUt we also carry out the technical side – we cut tissue, we stain slides, we centrifuge fluids etc. The doctors don’t do any of the techincal lab stuff. So the life of a cytology biomedical scientist and the life of a cytopathologist can be similar in places.
We can do extra training and study and become Consultant Biomedical Scientists, same grade as the consultant doctors. I want to do this, but not for a good few years yet.
