• Question: Why do you think people believed in the Lemark theory of evolution?

      That’s an interesting question. I think that at the time based on all the other things they knew Lamark’s theory made a lot of sense. They didn’t know about DNA or anything then. Lamark was a really clever guy and without his ideas and the ideas of other people around his time then Darwin and later scientists of evolution wouldn’t have been able to come up with the theory of natural selection.

      It’s really the way that all types of science work, people believe in one theory because it seems to make sense based upon all the evidence they have, but then someone will find some new evidence or have a new idea and everyone changes what they believe. I’m sure that in the future we will find that a lot of the things that we think are right are actually not quite correct. Even some of the things that Darwin thought about evolution have been shown to be incorrect. Science is constantly changing and updating as we find out more!
