Well, I think that everyone is a scientist, even you right now! We all test things to find out how they work and ask lots of questions, and really that’s all being a scientist is. However my first science job when I became an official scientist was when I started doing research that no one had ever done before in my last year of university.

I’ve always said I became a scientist when I was about 8! Chopping up worms and stuff from the garden and trying to see other things under the microscope!

But I first started to officially become a scientist 11 years ago.

I probably first started becoming a scientist when I was about 15. Until then, my teachers and parents didn’t think I was very clever, so I was planning to join the army! Then I went to university in 1999, so that was when I started training to become a scientist.
But perhaps I have always been a scientist – I have always been interested in nature and sciency things since I was little, even if I didn’t really understand them back then!
