• Question: what was your hobby before you became a scientist?

      I still have the same hobbies now that I had before I was a scientist – reading, music, going to the concerts and the theatre, astronomy etc.

      All that’s different is that I did a different job before I was a scientist – I have been in the Fire Brigade, though that was many years ago in 1991. There weren’t any female fire fighters in Kent, I was the first one.

      I was also in the Army for a few years driving big massive trucks. My hobbies were the same though.
