I haven’t found any new species that are alive today, but working with the other people in my research group we’ve found new species that are extinct. Most of them are fish, but some of these are really important because by looking at them we can understand where some of the key features that humans share with other animals came from, after all a very long time ago the ancestors of humans evolved from fish, so we are their descendants!

I’ve never discovered any species unfortunately, but it would be really exciting if I did!

I was with some people on fieldwork once who were looking for parasites. They found a strange worm that lived under the skin of a toad – they didn’t know what it was and thought they might have discovered a new species! It was really gross…! you could see the worm moving under the toads skin! yuck.

I haven’t discovered a species, but I have seen things that are a bit crazy. For example I have seen a cyst from someone’s ovary that had ginger hair, teeth and bones inside it. It was huge, it weighed about 2 kilos!
