I think science inspired me to be a scientist, I have always found science really interesting and wanted to learn more about it, so I’ve just kept doing it because I enjoy it. I’ve found lots of scientists and other people very inspiring, like my parents and teachers, but if I hadn’t always found science interesting then I wouldn’t have felt inspired to do it.

It was just that I really like medicine and disease and the human body. And I love using my hands and caryr out experiments and techniques, and the best way I found to do that was to be a biomedical scientist.

I don’t really remember any one thing that inspired me – I think it just happened gradually. I enjoyed learning about science, especially biology and then later on I became fascinated by germs and infectious diseases!

I did have one particularly good biology teacher – he was called Doc Malc and he was a legend in my school. He looked every part the crazy grey haired scientist, but he made every lesson fun and made everyone feel part of it! Perhaps he also inspired me a bit!
