In my work I don’t invent objects, but I do invent lots of new methods of doing things or new ways to answer problems. For example I recently invented a way to calculate exactly how big an animal’s brain is (from a fossil or for an animal that is alive today) just by measuring the outside of it’s head. At the moment I am working on inventing new ways of simulating evolution on a computer so that we can understand it better.

I don’t really invent things, just new ways of thinking about and analysing questions and data. Recently I was given money to develop a new way of analysing diseases which can infect both cows and humans. Normally people will study the disease in cows and the disease in people separately, I but I am going to put it all together in one big uber-analysis! Makes sense I think – Im not too sure why no one has done it before.
