The general consensus now is that the number of ships and aircraft that go missing in that area is not actually any higher than anywhere else, its just a coincidence that some famous accidents happened quite near each other. There are insurance companies for ships that very carefully work out with statistics whether some areas are more dangerous than others and they have said that the Bermuda triangle is not more dangerous so we have to believe them I guess!

I’ve actually been in a plane over it myself, and hundreds of people do all the time when they go on holiday or travel to the east coast of the USA.

However it is true that some planes and ships have gone missing (there and in other places) and there are lots of theories about why. My favourite one is something called methane hydrates. There used to be much more methane in the earth’s atmosphere and some of it got trapped in rocks millions of years ago. Some people think that sometimes this methane escapes from rocks in the sea floor and then it reacts with the sea water above it and all the sea there turns into bubbly foam and the ship sinks straight down through it! This probably doesn’t happen though, or at least not often anyway!

Sounds like Laura knows more about it than me, but I am glad to know it is not really a more dangerous area than anywhere else!
