I don’t really use many resources, except for power for my computer and lights and things. Some of that power comes from renewable sources and some from fossil fuels still, just the same as all the power you use in your school and home. The department that I work for tries to use sustainable resources where it can, and if I ever find that I need to use a particular resource then I would always research it thoroughly beforehand to make sure that I choose an ethical and sustainable option.

My work doesn’t really use that many resources other than electricity for my computer, but I suppose flying around the world for fieldwork uses quite a lot of fuel. I hope that by making my research available to people who might need it, and by sharing the data I have collected after I have used it, I can help to improve sustainability – its important that after all the effort of collecting data or creating an output that you share it as widely as possible…otherwise you are wasting money, resources and time!

Other than that, my department does quite a lot to try and reduce our power use and our use of other resources like paper.
